Secunderabad: A silver coin for every vote? Well, that’s the ‘return’ gift that every voter from four colonies in Secunderabad Cantonment received once they walked out of the polling booth.
In an attempt to boost the turnout, the RWAs of these colonies in Karkhana -- Tirumala Enclave, Amaravathi Colony, Surya Nagar Colony, and Kausalya Estates — collectively known as TASK, came up with this innovative idea to gift silver coins to residents who cast their votes.
The TASK has close to 400 registered electors.
“Inspired by the Election Commission of India’s plea to ensure 100% voting and to encourage voters, I decided to gift a silver coin. Upon hearing about it, residents thronged polling booths,” said Cheela Vijay Kumar, chairman of TASK.
